Wiffle Ball Rules
Rule #1 - Regular 3 Strikes and 4 balls per at-bat. 3 Outs in one inning. A strike is if it hits the rectangle strike zone, the batter swings and misses, or a foul ball. A ball is any pitch that misses the strike zone, including the hitting of a batter. There is no taking a base when hit-by-the-pitch. There are no foul outs.
Rule #2 - Up to four players on the field, a team can have a fifth member be a designated pitcher. Positions are 1st, Short-Stop, Outfield, and Pitcher.
Rule #3 - To get a runner out at home plate, because there is no catcher, a fielder must throw and hit the backstop behind home plate. If the throw hits the backstop AND goes past the plate before the runner steps on home the runner is out. If the throw misses the backstop or does not reach home plate before the runner, the runner is safe. Once the wiffle ball hits the backstop it is a dead ball and runners cannot advance.
Rule #4 - If the wiffle ball is hit in play, the fielder may throw to first base or step on the base where there is a force out.
Rule #5 - Balls are fair if they come back in play before first or third base.
Rule #6 - If the ball is overthrown by a fielder to first base or third and goes out of play, the batter is rewarded one bag.
Rule #7 - A Home Run is anything that goes over the blue wall in center field.
Rule #8 - No stealing or leading off bases.
Rule #9 - No balks for the pitcher.
Rule #10 - If a ball is hit by the batter in play but then goes foul, is stuck in a hard place to get, it is a ground rule double.
Rule #11 - If a ball hits the 1st beam on the ceiling, it is a foul ball. If a ball hits the second beam, the ball is in play. If a ball hits the third beam, it is an automatic triple.
Rule #12 - If a ball is hit into the basketball hoop in center field, it is a grand slam.
Rule #13 - 6 run limit per inning. No run limit in the last inning.
Rule #14 - 6 inning games or 1 hour time limit. If the game is tied at the end of the sixth inning, a seventh inning will be played. The game may end in a tie.
Rule #15 - No challenges in this game, all plays are ruled on the field by the ump.
Rule #16 - Pitchers are expected to throw at a controlled, competitive speed appropriate for Wiffle Ball. Pitches should be fast enough to challenge the batter but not so fast that they create an unsafe or overly difficult playing environment.
The umpire reserves the right to require a pitcher to reduce their pitching speed if, in the judgment of the umpire, pitches are consistently being thrown excessively hard or in an unsafe manner, regardless of the measured speed.
Pitchers may use normal Wiffle Ball movement, including curves, sliders, and other pitches, provided the pitch is thrown with a controlled motion and does not intentionally endanger the batter.
The umpire may issue a warning before requiring a pitcher to adjust their pitching speed or style.
Rule #17 - Sportsmanship & Conduct - All players are expected to maintain good sportsmanship and treat teammates, opponents, umpires, and league organizers with respect. Profanity, abusive language, fighting, taunting, and threatening or unsportsmanlike behavior will not be tolerated. League officials may remove players from games or the league for violations.
